Matthias Miller

Background

I was born in Heilbronn-Neckargartach and grew up in Lauffen, a small city with beautiful vineyards in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. In 2011, I moved to Konstanz, located at the border to Switzerland, to study Computer Science. I completed my Bachelor's degree in 2016 () and my Master's degree in 2018 (). Immediately after my graduate studies, I started my PhD which I completed by April 2024.

During my time in Konstanz I met my gorgeous Céline, whom I got marred to in 2019. As of today, we located to Allensbach, a pretty town, with the Bodensee and the Alps around the corner, where we don't plan to leave very soon =).

By end of March 2024, I completed by role as Research Associate at the Data Analysis and Visualization Group at the University of Konstanz. While I'm preparing for completing my Ph.D., I started to work as IT Coordinator in the IVIA Lab at ETH Zurich and will soon start as a PostDoc.

What I Do

Volunteering

As a musician, I am volunteering at a local church, playing the (electric) guitar and the piano. I am also singing and working with young people. Even during my Bachelor studies, I was already volunteering in a university group (SMD Konstanz) as a musician and organizer of events.

Web Design

I create multiple websites for businesses such as HolzAllee and 7Traxx. I also created NashvilleChords helping musicians to play songs more easily, without the need to identify repetitive parts in a song, which is very tedious when done manually.

Scientific Writing

As part of my doctoral studies, I wrote several scientific papers. These contain current research about different topics. You can find all my publications on the left or here.

Making Music

I love to make music and play my instruments. I play the piano since I am twelve years old and I play the guitar not much less years. Originally, I started playing the accordion when I was six years old. In my PhD, I eventually had the chance to combine my passion about music with computer science resulting in my dissertation 'Visual Sheet Music Analytics'.
